The big stories from the world of AI this week

Hello there,

Every week, we're amazed at how AI has assumed such a prominent role in our daily lives. This week is no exception, as we observe AI being used for personal desires (AI girlfriends making bank) and defense (Pentagon's AI assistance).

Let’s dive in!

Big Story 🥁

What if AI could help cure cancer? That was the inference made by Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel recently (link).

The pharmaceutical company has been using AI for years to assist with drug development, including its famed Covid-19 vaccine. Now, Moderna is setting its sights on cancer: Plans are in place for a Phase 3 trial for a vaccine to help with lung cancer.

And as Bancel notes, this is just the start. Eventually, he believes, there is a way we can personalise cancer treatments via AI.

If nothing else, it provides a ray of hope in an-all-too often doomsday narrative of AI.
